If you buy supplements, you need to watch this video. And no, not all supplements are scams. I take some. You probably know about the issues with supplement purity and crazy claims. But there's another problem I rarely see anyone discussing. It's about dosing. With vitamins and minerals, there's a recommended daily value and a pretty good understanding of how much you need to take to hit that number. Ideally from food. But with herbs and other botanicals, proper dosing gets way harder. And the FDA doesn't regulate it. Lately, I've been researching natural hair loss treatments for a video series. There's a plant called Saw Palmetto with a hand. full of small human trials showing that it might help with hair regrowth, used either topically or orally. One way it might work is by blocking the conversion of the hormone testosterone to dh-htee, similar to the drug finasteri, just not quite as potent. And sure enough, if we look it up on Amazon, this is one of the top results, hair thickness maximizer, with 1,200 milligrams of Saw Palmetto extract per survey. But here's the problem. In the seven clinical trials that used Saw Palmetto, the dose that they used ranged from 100 milligrams to 320 milligrams, one-quarter that of the Amazon product. For many compounds, more is not better. Blocking a little bit of a hormone might be helpful. Blocking too much of it could be a problem. Phanasteride can lead to a sleepy soldier. Now on the other end of the spectrum, here's a viral on TikTok hair growth supplement that has a proprietary hair growth complex, with eight ingredients totaling 300 milligrams. These proprietary blends don't have to disclose their actual amounts, so they often have way too little of the pricier ingredients. Not enough to actually do anything. So if you're taking any supplement, make sure to check with a trusted source for your
